HASSAN: The former Prime Minister and Janata Dal (Secular) president H.D. Deve Gowda on Sunday welcomed the Supreme Court judgment on providing 27 per cent reservation for Other Backward Classes in education. Addressing presspersons at Aremadanahalli in Arkalgud taluk of Hassan district, he called for imposing conditions when allowing private investment in education. Mr. Gowda said that the creamy layer concept should also be applied for Scheduled Castes as many small groups among them have not reaped the benefits of reservation. He also wanted internal reservations among OBCs so that castes that were not included earlier could be included. This issue would include in Janata Dal (Secular)’s election manifesto. Candidates’ choiceOn selection of candidates, Mr. Gowda said preference would be given from the social justice point of view, women, youths and their winning ability would be considered. He welcomed the statement of Election Commission that it would carefully watch the activities of mines and land mafia and that election officers have been directed to keep a close watch on these elements. Mr. Gowda would be camping in Hassan on Monday to finalise list of candidates from Hassan district.
