This Day That Age
The Congress Parliamentary Party, at its meeting in New Delhi on April 12, briefly discussed the questions of Parliamentary control over autonomous public corporations and other state undertakings. Mr. Nehru apprised the party of the decision of setting up a ten-member committee of Congress MPs under the chairmanship of Mr. V.K. Krishna Menon. Mr. Nehru recalled the emphasis laid by the Chagla Commission on the need for evolving a suitable arrangement for the control of state undertakings, and said that the appointment of the committee was the first step they had taken in the direction. The committee would go into the question of accountability of these undertakings to Parliament and furnish the necessary material on the basis of which the party could formulate a suitable policy .
