dated April 14, 1958: Award to nuclear scientist

By agreement of a panel of judges, a new Achievement Award is to be presented to Sir John Cockcroft, the renowned British nuclear scientist, and the Commonwealth team who produced the modern marvel of the Zero-Energy Thermonuclear Assembly (ZETA). ZETA is the apparatus whose performance has led British scientists to the belief that control of fusion reactions for electricity generation may well be a possibility of the future. This new concept of power generation could make the oceans of the world the sources of virtually inexhaustible supplies of fuel.
