Mumbai: India’s first country report on safety of the civilian nuclear plants will be presented by Chairman of the Atomic Energy Regulatory Board (AERB) S.K. Sharma at the two-week Convention on Nuclear Safety (CNS) beginning on Monday in Vienna. Mr. Sharma will present the 200-page report along with 70 questions raised by the other countries as part of the peer review of the national report at the CNS on April 17. He is being accompanied by 17 top officials from the Nuclear Power Corporation of India (NPCIL), the Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC) and the AERB. The CNS has devoted a full day (April 17) for India’s report. First reportIndia joined the convention in 2005 and “this will be our first national report on the safety of civilian nuclear plants,” Mr. Sharma told PTI. “Although nuclear power plants all over the world are operating at a very high level of safety and we have different means of exchanging information on safety, the CNS would further strengthen the safety of operating nuclear plants,” he said. — PTI
