New York: Co-educational schools are better than single-sex ones, as the very presence of girls in classes restrains boys from indulging in unruly behaviour and improves their academic performance, a study has found. The higher the percentage of girls the lower is the extent of classroom disruption. Co-educational classes also help foster a better relationship between students and their teacher, Israeli researchers found. “Being with more girls is good for everybody. We find that both boys and girls do better when there are more girls in the class,” said lead researcher Analia Schlosser of Tel Aviv University. Researchers looked at girls and boys in mixed classrooms in elementary, middle, and high-school grades. — PTI
