BJP yet to decide the number of seats to be shared with JD (U) Five women figure among 35 names cleared in the second list NEW DELHI/BANGALORE: After the initial hesitation, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) State unit has reportedly decided to continue its national pre-poll alliance with the Janata Dal (United) in Karnataka. Sources in the BJP said that such a decision had been taken following the party central unit’s suggestion. However, the party is yet to decide the number of seats to be shared with the Janata Dal (United). Five seatsA senior Bharatiya Janata Party functionary told The Hindu that the party was ready to give five seats for the Janata Dal (United), which had five members in the dissolved Assembly. However, the Janata Dal (United) is said to be insisting on getting about 20 seats. The Bharatiya Janata Party is learnt to have left it to its central unit to decide the matter. DownplayedA leader of the Bharatiya Janata Party central unit sought to downplay the demands of the Janata Dal (United) and remarked: “Let the Janata Dal (United) find candidates for contesting the Assembly elections, let it pinpoint the seats it wants, we are ready to accommodate their demands. Our party is all for upholding the ‘coalition dharma.’ But the Janata Dal (United) has to find credible nominees first.” The BJP is in talks with its alliance partner both in the Capital and in Karnataka as well.
