Bike used in murder stolen from Bulandshahr

NEW DELHI: In a major breakthrough in the sensational murder of businessman Arun Gupta in South Delhi about a week ago, the Special Cell of the Delhi Police has arrested two young men for their alleged involvement. The police suspect that the duo had taken a Rs.5-lakh contract to eliminate the businessman.

It is learnt that the police zeroed in on the suspects, both residents of western Uttar Pradesh, after the motorcycle used in the commission of crime was found stolen from Bulandshahr on April 5. The Special Cell took over the case on Sunday and arrested the two men. The Special Cell also summoned Mr. Gupta’s brother-in-law Dinesh Mittal to the Lodhi Road office for questioning in the evening.

Earlier investigations had revealed that Mr. Gupta was involved in a longstanding property dispute with his in-laws. Even though his mother-in-law was on his side, Mr. Gupta and his brothers-in-law were involved in a long legal battle over sharing of the property left behind by his late father-in-law M. L. Mittal. The police found that Dinesh was unhappy with Mr. Gupta’s alleged move to persuade his mother-in-law to transfer fix-deposits worth crores in his name.

During interrogation, the two suspects disclosed that they were given about Rs.2 lakh as advance for the work. At their instance, the police are trying to recover the weapon that was used to kill Mr. Gupta.

The duo would be produced in a court on Monday.

A wholesale dealer in electrical goods, Mr. Gupta was on his way to his shop at Bhagirath Place when he was shot dead by three assailants in broad daylight on April 7.
