NEW DELHI: Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit on Sunday declared that the Delhi Government has accelerated the pace of regularisation and development of unauthorised colonies in Delhi and in a matter of a few months most of them would become an integral part of planned development. Ms. Dikshit addressed a number of public meetings in Rampura after dedicating four newly constructed chaupals to the people. The new chaupals have been constructed at a cost of nearly Rs.2 crore. All of them are two-storey high and have a combined covered area of around 1,850 square metres. She inaugurated these community halls in the presence of Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee president J. P. Aggarwal and area MLA Anil Bhardwaj. Ms. Dikshit stated that there was no dearth of funds for planned development of unauthorised colonies and that her Government was committed to providing all basic amenities to the residents at the earliest. Ms Dikshit said the Delhi Government had prepared a time-bound development plan for these colonies and earmarked a sum of Rs.2,800 crore for them. Mr. Aggarwal said the Delhi Government had adopted a pro-poor policy as it has decided to construct a large number of low-cost houses to make it slum-free. He added Delhi was also the only State in the country that has granted a rebate of Rs 1 per unit of electricity to the poor.
