CRIP bogged-down by land acquisition problems Call for delegation to pursue demand for Bench Thiruvananthapuram: The Federation of Residents Associations, Thiruvananthapuram, (FRAT) has urged the government to kick-start work on priority projects for the development of the capital city. The governing body of FRAT, which met here on Sunday, called for resuming work on the stalled City Roads Improvement Project (CRIP). It was on January 4 that an agreement was reached between the government and Thiruvananthapuram Road Development Company Limited (TRDCL) to resume the project. The consortium is a joint venture between Consolidated Toll Network Limited (CTNL) and Punj Lloyd. The project came to a halt in November 2006. The City Roads Improvement Project involves the development of 12 road corridors measuring 44 km, two flyovers, an underpass, 65 junctions and 94 bus bays. Though the government decided to kick-off the second phase in March, the project is still bogged down by the failure to complete land acquisition and the delay in identifying land for the executing company to set up a mixing plant and stockyard. The FRAT meeting expressed concern over the failure to revive the project despite the decision of the review meeting convened by the Chief Minister and the constitution of a Cabinet sub-committee for the purpose. It also appealed to the government to despatch an all-party delegation to meet the President, Prime Minister and Union Law Minister and seek their support for the establishment of a High Court Bench in the capital city. The meeting called for steps to find a permanent solution to the problem of flooding at Thampanoor and East Fort. FRAT president Pattom Sasidharan Nair, general secretary Paraniyam Devakumar, treasurer C. Rajagopalan Nair and patron T.K. Bhaskara Panikker participated in the meeting.
