Thailand may discuss rice issue with India

P.S. Suryanarayana

SINGAPORE: Thailand may seek to engage India on the issues relating to the rising prices of rice varieties in the global market, if the current indications about Bangkok’s intentions and also the commodity situation remain firm for some time. Union Commerce and Industry Minister Kamal Nath is likely to visit Bangkok later this month to attend a session of the U.N. ESCAP and for bilateral talks with the new Thai leaders, who recently assumed office on the basis of a democracy-restoring election. It is then that the Thai leaders are expected to discuss the rice situation with Mr. Kamal Nath.
