30 policemen injured

Raipur: Bilaspur Superintendent of Police Pradeep Gupta and about 30 policemen were injured in a mob attack in Bodsara village, Bilaspur district, about 145 km from here.

Two police jeeps were also burnt down by the crowd. Fifty people were arrested.

“A large number of people armed with canes and sharp weapons wanted to enter a site to install their religious leader’s statue in Bodsara village on Saturday night,” Bilaspur District Collector Subodh Kumar Singh told PTI by phone.

Since the Chhattisgarh High Court had asked the government to protect that piece of land (whose owner had moved the court), policemen stopped the crowd from entering the area, resulting in a clash between the two sides, he said.

Prohibitory orders under Section 144 of the Cr.PC were clamped in the area, Mr. Gupta said. — PTI
