Winning smiles: The MCC team, which won the ‘A’ Zone final of the Sanmar-TNTA tennis league on Sunday. CHENNAI: The ‘A’ Zone finals of the Sanmar-TNTA tennis league have more often than not been engrossing. This time though, it was one-sided. MCC defeated Besant Nagar 3-1 at the MCC here on Sunday to win the ‘A’ Zone crown for the fifth year in a row. Already 2-0 up on Saturday after having bagged the singles matches, the MCC had three doubles matches on Sunday. Once the MCC pair of Vinod Sridhar and Vikram Aditya Menon defeated Rishi Sridhar and Krishna Kumar 6-3, 6-4, the adjoining match on the nearby court had to be stopped as MCC had clinched the tie. MCC’s Rajiv Vijayakumar and Kamala Kannan conceded the match to Abhinav and Priyank Gangadharan 6-4, 1-4. The winner received Rs. 40,000, while the runner-up took home Rs. 20,000. N. Kumar, Vice-Chairman, Sanmar Group, gave away the prizes. The results: Final: MCC bt Besant Nagar 3-1 (Vinod Sridhar bt Ajai Selvaraj 6-0, 6-0; Kamala Kannan bt Rishi Sridhar 6-1, 6-3; Vinod Sridhar & Vikram Aditya Menon bt Rishi Sridhar & Krishna Kumar 6-3, 6-4; Rajiv Vijayakumar & Kamala Kannan lost to Abhinav & Priyank Gangadharan 6-4, 1-4 (conceded)).
