Kakinada: Describing Dr. B.R Ambedkar as a ‘national asset’ on the occasion of his 118th birthday on Monday, Union Minister of State for Defence and Kakinada MP M.M. Pallam Raju said it was time to introspect to what extent social equality was achieved and take measures that help in realising the ideals for which Dr. Ambedkar had toiled throughout his life. While paying tributes to such great leaders, the contemporary rulers should think ahead of their times to pave way for India to become a true global power. Minister for Small Scale Industries Gollapalli Surya Rao expressed anguish at the desecrations of statues of Ambedkar and appealed to the government officials concerned to deal with the perpetrators of such inhuman acts, sternly under the law. No leader of the masses should be denigrated in any manner. Kakinada MLA Mutha Gopalakrishna, Collector Gopalakrishna Dwivedi, Joint Collector G.S.R.K.R. Vijay Kumar, Zilla Parishad Chairman Ch. Venugopala Krishna and others were present. Earlier, Ministers Pallam Raju and Surya Rao cut a cake signifying the birthday of Dr. Ambedkar and got it distributed to the participants. Perfect examplesWhile paying tributes to Dr. Ambedkar birth anniversary coincided Sri Ramanavami festival , at a separate function Joint Collector G.S.R.K.R. Vijay Kumar said that the sages Valmiki and Vyasa, the authors of Ramayana and Mahabharata, hailed from the backward classes but their greatness was realised when the world discovered that they were the ones who wrote the epics. Their lives were perfect examples of the fact that superiority does not come with one’s caste but his or her intellectual capabilities. Seen against this backdrop, Ambedkar was treated like a secondary citizen but he went on to become one of India’s greatest visionaries and played the lead role in drafting the Constitution. He had questioned the tyranny of the forward castes who treated all those belonging to the lower strata of society, as inferior beings. He proved that there is no such thing as caste and all individuals are talented in one way or the other. Humiliation in the name of caste is therefore not acceptable as it was a social evil created by those who could not accept their fellow beings growing in stature.
