Special Correspondent

TIRUVANNAMALAI: Consumer clubs are to be started in 500 colleges in Tamil Nadu at the cost of Rs.25 lakh to create awareness of consumer rights through the college students, according to Food Minister E.V. Velu.

Speaking at the State Level World Consumer Day celebrations organised here on Saturday, Mr. Velu said that training would be given to the members of the consumer clubs to be started in the colleges. Consumer awareness clubs, which were already functioning in the schools, were creating awareness among the public through various activities.

He said that the consumers had to be vigilant to ensure that the government schemes were properly implemented and reached the targeted beneficiaries.

The voluntary consumer welfare organisations should create awareness of consumer rights, he said.
