‘Government has already initiated price control measures’ 9 crore sanctioned for solving water problem in the temple town
BHADRACHALAM: Chief Minister Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy said here on Monday that the subsidised rice scheme launched in the State was no short-term measure and it would be implemented as long as the people were in need of it. Addressing a news conference here, he said the government had already initiated price control measures. Essential commodities including dals and oil would be made available to the common man at reasonable prices soon. Attributing the rise in the prices of vegetables to heavy rain that hit the vegetable crops in 4,800 hectares, he said the inflationary trends also had their impact on the overall situation. He said the government would give the required funds for the completion of the Rajivsagar lift irrigation scheme on the Godavari. Once the projects taken up under the Jalayagnam were completed, over 92 per cent of the arable area in the district would be extended irrigation. Khammam district enjoyed the highest irrigation potential in the State and Srikakulam district stands second on this count. All the irrigation projects taken up in the district, including Rajivsagar and Indirasagar lift schemes, would be completed in three to four years. The Chief Minister made it clear that the scheduled area regulation 1/70 cannot be repealed. Stating that the tribal-non tribal confrontation on the 1/70 related land disputes could be resolved amicably, he asked the officials not to take recourse to coercive measures such as booking of cases. The Chief Minister announced sanction of Rs 9 crore for solving the drinking water problem in the temple town and Rs 4 crore for developing roads and drainage system. He said that the Ramayana theme park would also be completed in the town. The Minister for Endowments, J.Ratnakar Rao, the Minister for Health and Family Welfare, Sambhani Chandrasekhar, the Minister for Vaidya Vidhana Parishad, Vanama Venkateswar Rao, the district Collector, Shashibhushan Kumar, and the SP, D. S. Chauhan, were among those present.
