Siemens provides IT backbone for airport
A. Saye Sekhar
HYDERABAD: Baggage check-in, flight service information display, boarding passes, biometric identification of passengers and other such services in the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA) are just the front ends. Much more happens behind the scenes for providing all these services to make up for the day-to-day running of the airport. Integrating the services of several companies like SAP, UFIS, RESA and TVS Software, is Siemens Information Systems Ltd (SISL), the IT arm of Siemens Group that powers the computing in the airport. The company, which claims high degree of domain expertise in airport data management and information systems, has put in place almost everything for the top brass of the airport operator to watch the details in a single view, according to executive vice-president of SISL A. S. Viswanathan.
Replication
The Master System Integrator (MSI), the IT backbone for the airport, provided at the RGIA is being replicated at Delhi and Bangalore airports by SISL, he said. This was the first time such an innovative MSI was implemented in any green field airport across the globe.
