Woman survives suicide bid, children die

Staff Reporter

VISAKHAPATNAM: In a shocking incident, a woman survived a suicide bid after throwing her two children into a well at Nakkapali on Monday.

Her children, both girls aged two and four years, died as people working on agriculture fields including her brother rescued Yelamanchil Manga (25). It is alleged that Manga wanted to die along with her kids due to harassment by her husband, an autorickshaw driver.

The incident, which took place at 2 p.m., spread shock waves at Nakkapalli. Manga’s husband works in Vijayawada and all of them were on a visit to the town to meet their relatives. Their marriage was performed seven years ago.

Informed sources said following an altercation, Manga went to the well located on the outskirts of the town and jumped into the well along with the children. Though they were pulled out of the well immediately, the children could not be rescued.

In shock

Manga is in a state of shock. After referring her to a local hospital, she was sent to Tuni in the neighbouring East Godavari district for better care. The case is being investigated by the SI of Nakkapali, S.K. Gafoor, under the supervision of the CI, P.R. Rajendra Kumar.
