Aravindh Kumar wins title

TIRUCHI: S. Aravindh Kumar, with seven points from as many rounds, clinched the boys’ under-13 title in the State-level chess tournament, conducted by Myl Chess Academy, here on Sunday.

The results: Open (seven rounds): 1. Lakshminarayanan (6), 2. M. Kunal (5.5), 3. Saravanan (5.5).

Women (five rounds): 1. J. Vaishnavi (3.5), 2. Bhuvaneshwari (2.5), 3. R. Gowri (2).

Boys: Under-15 (five rounds): 1. B.P. Dinesh (5), 2. K.S. Kamal Shankar (3.5), 3. R. Manojram (3.5); Under-13 (seven rounds): 1. S. Aravindh Kumar (7), 2. Anand Ravi Sekar (6), 3. S. Khadar scores brace

Abdul Khadar struck a brace as Jothi Malleables defeated Grass Hoppers 3-1 in a Tiruchi DFA first division football league encounter here on Monday. Kaleel was the other scorer. Muthuselvan netted for the loser.

Vantage posts win

An unbeaten half-century by Tony Arthur helped Vantage CC score a four-wicket win over Sunny CC in the Canara Bank-Kanyakumari DCA first division league in Nagercoil on Monday.

The scores: Sunny 106 in 20.5 overs (Sahayabadin 40) lost to Vantage 107 for six in 26.1 overs (Tony Arthur 51 not out, Godson four for 29).

Match drawn

Rajini FC (K. Palaiyur) and Muneeswara FC (Manachai) played out a 1-1 draw in the Sivagangai DFA ‘B’ division league at Karaikudi on Monday.

Muneeswara took the lead through a 33rd minute strike by Palani, while Ramachandran netted the equaliser for Rajini within the next two minutes.

In another match, Friends FC (Kandanur) drew with Chidambaram Memorial FC (K. Velangudi), with neither side scoring.
