THANJAVUR: Importance of humanism and communal harmony was stressed at a meeting organised by the Ulaga Tirukural Peravai here on Sunday.

The Peravai has been organising the function titled “Chithiraiyil Oru Muthirai Vizha” on the first day of the Tamil month of Chithirai every year jointly with Hotel Parisutham. The Commercial Taxes Minister, S. N. M. Ubayathullah, said that Tirukural would help people who were in distress if they sought a solution to their problems. The great book in couplet form written by saint Tiruvalluvar encompasses all aspects of life. But the problem with the people was that they don’t follow the tenets even after reading books like Tirukural. Communal harmony assumes importance at this juncture.

He urged the people to give away anger, cultivate extraordinary tolerance, yielding to good things and lead a peaceful life. Mr. Ubayathullah gave away prizes to students and honoured Tamil scholars.

T. Suresh Kumar, Congress functionary, S.P. Anthonisamy, president, Ulaga Tirukural Peravai, and Pazha. Maravarman, secretary, Ulaga Tirukural Peravai, participated. Bharathanatyam performance by students of Aruna Subramaniam followed the function. The students danced to the invocation song, Tirukural and other songs.
