Bangalore: Here is a platform for adoptive families to come together, share experiences and strengthen their parenting skills. SuDatta, the Support Group of Adoptive Families, is holding an interactive workshop for parents to help prepare skills towards better child development. The workshop is free and will be held on April 19, between 2 p.m. and 5 p.m, at Ashirwad Party Hall, 18th Main, Jayanagar 4th Block. Shoba Srinath, Professor and Head of Department, Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, National Institute of Mental Health and Neurosciences (NIMHANS), will speak on parenting, followed by a question and answer session. Participation is free. You can register by April 17 through email ( mallikabad@yahoo.com) or call 98455 57362. SuDatta is an adoptive families’ support group, which focuses on the family unit built around the adopted child. The group was first initiated in Chennai and now exists in Bangalore, Pune, Mysore, Coimbatore and Mangalore, and plans to expand to Hubli, Gulbarga and Raichur. Besides seminars and workshops on adoptive parenthood, SuDatta organises family get-togethers to give children an opportunity to interact with each other. The group includes professional counsellors who counsel adoptive parents and children.
