CHENNAI: Larsen & Toubro, in association with The Music Academy, launched the ‘Panchangam calendar on 72 melakartha ragas’ here on Monday.

The calendar, which features illustrations of veteran musician and artist S. Rajam, also contains his explanations of the 12 chakras in the 72 melakartha raga scheme. Interesting interpretations of the same accompany each month of the year.

Speaking at the launch, president (construction) and member of the board, Larsen & Toubro, K.V. Rangaswami, said Mr. Rajam’s work for the calendars brought out earlier were also amazing. “He has dwelt upon themes such as the trinity and dasavatharam,” he said.

Industrialist P. Obul Reddy commended the artist for his effort.

Managing director of The Hindu and president of The Music Academy N. Murali said the function was a confluence of many good things. For Larsen & Toubro, it was the 70th year of founding and the founders’ centenary.

It was also the 80th anniversary of The Music Academy, he added.

It was an Indian company with a global footprint and had been in the forefront in promoting Indian ethos, culture and tenets.

Commending Mr. Rajam, Mr. Murali said he was a rare combination of musical acumen and artistic creativity. A demonstration by ethnomusicologist S.A.K. Durga followed.
