Compulsive: A blogger in action BANGALORE: With their thoughts as their weapons and the keyboard doubling as armour, these netizens from all walks of life are all set to conquer cyberspace. ’“I blog therefore I am” reads the display name of one of the bloggers, and identities, locations and people cease to matter. Brainstorm issuesFrom the Other Backward Classes reservations to the much-talked about IPL auctions, bloggers through their posts and articles — some profound, some profane — discuss and brainstorm issues that affect them most. A group of such blogging enthusiasts from across India, brought together on the World Wide Web, are organising a country-wide contest called Blogathon India. So, tighten your seatbelts and put your thinking caps on, insure yourself for possible blog burnout and get ready to blog! The week-long contest, which is open to anybody who has a blog, will be held from April 20 to April 26. Best blogWhile the organisers feel that such an event will raise awareness on blogging, participants will compete for six titles including best blog, best comment and best senior citizen blog. “It’s all about finding your voice. It is not important who wins. What is important is that for a week we will blog about specific subjects and be exposed to a wide range of opinions,” says Mohan from Christ College. So, what is the prize? In a virtual world, nothing is real. The prize is a shiny, brand new web tag! The winning blog will sport the web tag and receive the honour of being heard across various platforms. All blog posts made towards the Blogathon will be linked from the Blogathon website ( www.blogathon.in). MeetingIn a world of words how can one forget pictures! The Bangalore Bloggers met at the Traffic Park on St. Mark’s Road at an informal meeting to discuss the event. The event was extended to accommodate the concept of photo blogging. “We are making sure we don’t leave anything out, which is why we have included regional blogging. We want people to write in any language,” says Sanjukta Basu, a lawyer.
