CUTTACK: The Orissa High Court on Tuesday asked the Superintendents of Police of Ganjam and Sambalpur to take appropriate steps in resuming the functioning of the courts under their jurisdiction. Courts in these districts have not been functioning for last several days as the lawyers here have been on strike demanding setting up permanent circuit benches of the HC. Personal appearanceBoth SPs were summoned by the HC and they appeared in person on Tuesday. The bench of Chief Justice A K Ganguly and Justice B N Mohapatra asked the police to ensure that the courts in their respective districts functioned smoothly. Adjudicating a PIL, the HC had earlier sought reports from the district judges of Ganjam and Sambalpur with regard to the status of the courts in the districts and their functioning. The district judges had informed that the courts were not functioning smoothly as the lawyers were on strike.
