For restoration of Pudukottai Parliamentary constituency

PUDUKOTTAI: People belonging to various walks of life under the banner Pudukottai Parliamentary Constituency Retrieval Committee took out a rally at three centres in the district on Tuesday, demanding the restoration of Parliamentary constituency status for the district.

In Pudukottai, the Rajya Sabha member and National secretary of the Bharatiya Janata Party Su. Tirunavukkarasar inaugurated the procession at the Public Office here.

Speaking on the occasion he said that the Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi should immediately ensure ‘status quo’ for the Parliamentary constituency status for the district.

The district would lose its identity following the recommendations of the Delimitation Committee. “The time is not lost yet, as the general election is about a year away,” he said.

The president of the Committee R. Xavier and the co-ordinators Kasi. Viswanathan, Chandrasekaran were among those who participated in the procession. They submitted a memorandum to the District Collector D. Uthirakkumaran, urging the Election Commission to restore the original status for the district.

Aranthangi

In Aranthangi, the members of the committee marched through the thoroughfares and reached the office of the Revenue Divisional Officer where they submitted a memorandum. The president of the Aranthangi unit of the Committee L. Kailasanathan led the procession.

Alankudi

In Alankudi, representatives of the Committee, led by Aranthangi unit president Dhanabal, took out a procession to Taluk Office. This is the second leg of the protest called by the Committee. In the third phase, it has called for a bandh on April 26.
