Advocates at loggerheads in Virudhunagar district

Staff Reporter

They want cases to be shifted to courts in their proximity

VIRUDHUNAGAR: Advocates of different towns of Virudhunagar district are at logger heads and abstained from work on Tuesday pressing to shift cases from far off courts to that in their proximity.

Advocates in Virudhunagar have been protesting over a fortnight seeking long pending cases to the Fast Track Court here from the district court in Srivilliputtur. They wanted all the appeal cases from the eastern region of the district to be shifted to the FTC so that people of Aruppukottai, Kariyapatti and Tiruchuzhi need not travel all the way to far off Srivilliputtur.

Meanwhile, advocates in Srivilliputtur, supported by those from Rajapalayam, objected to shifting of cases from the District Court complex to the FTC. A few lawyers here opened a ‘gruel’ centre to highlight the issue.

In another development lawyers of Aruppukottai too struck work. They demanded that all cases of Aviyur, Kariyapatti and Mallankinaru police stations should be shifted to the Aruppukottai Judicial Magistrate Court from Virudhunagar.
