Malikipuram (East Godavari): Thousands of farmers and women, who thronged the village braving the scorching sun on Tuesday, felt happy when Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy announced that the Centre’s loan waiver scheme would be applicable to all farmers.

Addressing a public meeting after laying the foundation for the link bridge between Sakhinetipalli-Narasapur near here, the Chief Minister said that out of Rs. 60,000-crore waiver, the State has a share of Rs.12,000 crores and 1.5 crore farmers were going to benefit from the scheme. He claimed that the Congress government was always pro-farmer and it had been according priority to agrarian schemes. He recalled the introduction of free power scheme through which thousands of farmers were getting the benefit.

Election promises

The Chief Minister listed the election promises he made four years ago and their fulfilment. He said the government had sanctioned Rs. 3,000 crores for the modernisation of the Godavari delta area including strengthening of bunds, retaining walls, drainage system and construction of flood banks.

Earlier, he interacted with women.

He enquired about the health of a woman who had undergone surgery under the Arogyasri scheme recently and about medical aid that she got from hospital. When asked the public to react and have any complaints on Indiramma, NREGS, Rajiv Grihakalpa or any other scheme, people said that they have no complaints.

East Godavari Collector Gopalakrishna Dwivedi, Ministers Jakkampudi Rammohana Rao, Maganti Venkateswara Rao, J.C. Diwakar Reddy, Pilli Subashchandra Bose and Gollapalli Suryarao and MP Harsha Kumar and MLA Alluri Krishnam Raju and others participated.
