Sakhinetipalli (East Godavari): The long-pending issue in Konaseema seems to have been solved with Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy laying the foundation stone for Sakhinetipalli-Narasapuram bridge on Tuesday at Sakhinetipalli in Razole constituency. Addressing a public meeting at Malikipuram Junior College grounds, the Chief Minister promised that work on the bridge would start in August. It would be completed in a period of one year and nine months. Pointing out that tenders for the bridge were called for several times, the Chief Minister said many contractors did not show interest in the open bidding. However, when Razole MLA Alluri Krishnam Raju and Minister J. Rammohana Rao asked him to allow the contract on nomination basis, he had agreed to it, the Chief Minister said. As a result, Mytas Company came forward to take up the Rs.192-crore project for execution, Dr. Reddy said and added that under the agreement the government would pay Rs.19 crores per annum to the company every year for ten years from now. After completion of the bridge, the transport of fish, shrimp and other aqua products to West Godavari and Vijayawada would be easy. The Chief Minister arrived at Vuyyurivari Meraka helipad around 3 p.m. by helicopter and laid the foundation for the bridge and later inaugurated a pylon nearby. He reached Malikipuram by car and addressed a public meeting.
