Congress leaders pat themselves on voter list rectification

BERHAMPUR: Congress workers of the city want to cash on the continuing rectification of voter list to prepare their base for the coming elections.

Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) member Bikram Panda said this recent rectification work of the city voter list was the achievement of the Congress workers. The Congress activists of the city had protested against the large-scale errors in the voter list and had approached the State Election Commission for its rectification. City president of the party Sanjit Panigrahy said they had also approached the Orissa High Court over the matter.

Mr Panigrahy also filed case against the errors in construction of wards of the city municipality after the delimitation.

“There are wards which have a sizeable population of Scheduled Castes after delimitation but are not reserved for them”, he said.

On Tuesday the Congress activists of the city had gathered for a meeting to chalk out a plan to persuade every citizen of the city to include his or her name in the voter list.

“The recent rectification of voter list is our achievement and we want all voters to know it,” Mr Panigrahy said.

They decided to move from door-to-door to enquire whether the families had their names registered in the voter list and would also educate them how to complain regarding errors in the voter list.
