Legal battle already on over property Tried but failed to win over mother NEW DELHI: Dinesh Mittal, who has been arrested by the Special Cell of the Delhi Police on charges of masterminding his brother-in-law Arun Gupta’s murder in Kalkaji here this past week, had initially planned to make it look like an accident. During interrogation, Dinesh purportedly disclosed to the police that he tried to win over his mother hoping that she would bequeath her share of the Rs.400-crore family property to him, but failed to do so. His mother apparently was fond of her daughter Sadhna and her husband Arun Gupta. A legal battle was already under way between Gupta and his brothers-in-law over the prime property, Mittal Garden. Suspecting that his mother would give her share of the property and fixed deposits to her daughter and son-in-law, Dinesh allegedly began hatching a plot to get his sister and brother-in-law killed. The police suspect that by eliminating them Dinesh wanted to make sure that his mother would be left with no choice but to come back to him. Dinesh allegedly decided to hire contract killers and contacted his employee Haroon, who arranged two alleged contract killers, Parvez and Afroz. Dinesh purportedly asked them to kill his sister and brother-in-law in such a manner that it would look like an accident. However, when the plan was changed and the decision to target only Gupta was taken is not clear. The contract killers assured him of a “foolproof” job. The duo had allegedly arranged firearms, but subsequently changed the plan and decided to hire another person. Police investigations revealed that Dinesh was not doing well in his property business and had to take care of two families as he has two wives. The police are examining Sneh’s role in the case, but have not come across any evidence so far.
