BANGALORE: The Janata Dal (Secular) Parliamentary Board has a sent for clearance a list of 117 candidates for the Assembly elections to party president H.D. Deve Gowda. The Board picked the candidates on the first day of its two-day meeting held in a resort outside Bangalore. The meeting was attended by the former Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy, State party president Merajuddin Patel, working president C. Narayanaswamy, senior vice-presidents D.T. Jayakumar and Leeladevi R. Prasad, and A. Srinivas. Board chairman D. Manjunath presided over the meeting. Mr. Deve Gowda will have the final word in choosing candidates. Mr. Patel said that on Wednesday the Board would clear all matters connected with elections, particularly the strategy. The list of candidates for the rest of the constituencies would be released after April 19. It was unlikely that the party would have a seat-sharing pact with any other party. Mr. Deve Gowda had already said that the party would contest all seats on its own.
