LSGIs told to monitor amenities

Special Correspondent

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Local Administration Department has directed the secretaries of local self-government institutions to ensure that basic amenities for the public are provided in bus stations, shopping complexes, markets, hotels and restaurants.

A circular issued by the department has asked the secretaries to issue notices to provide such facilities within three months. The circular was issued considering the inconveniences experienced by the public who frequent these places. There is no mechanism to keep the toilets clean and many do not have doors too.

Stringent action should be taken against those who do not construct toilets after securing building permits. Cases of diverting such spaces too would be sternly dealt with. The secretaries should examine such public places and if amenities are found to be inadequate, action would be taken.
