AMU plan for new entrance test centres opposed
NEW DELHI: Some members of the Executive Council of Aligarh Muslim University have opposed the varsity’s decision to set up four new centres for its common entrance test for professional courses, saying it goes against the rules of the institution.
Nine members of the Council have come out in opposition against the decision, saying the issue should have been first discussed by the Academic Council of the University.
The Executive Council had on January 17 taken the decision to set up new centres for entrance tests in Bhopal, Kozhikode, Kolkata and Pune. However, after the AMU Staff Association passed a resolution opposing the decision, saying the issue should have first come before the Academic Council, a special EC meeting was held on March 31, when the move was again given the go-ahead, but nine members of the panel gave a note of dissent.
“We are strictly against this decision. It has been taken hastily and the set procedures have not been followed," said Wasim Ahmed, a member of the EC. One member, S. Saghir Ahmed, has even written to the University Vice-Chancellor, saying the decision was against a Supreme Court direction asking for status quo to be maintained in the varsity. -- PTI
