Man sentenced for bid to assault daughter
Staff Reporter
NEW DELHI: A court here has sentenced a man convicted of attempting to criminally assault his daughter to five years’ rigorous imprisonment in a four-year-old case.
Additional Sessions Judge Bharat Parashar also slapped a fine of Rs.10,000 on Brahma Nand Sharma after finding him guilty under Section 376 (rape) read with 511 (attempt to commit an offence), 354 (outraging modesty of a woman) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code.
The court said nothing came during the testimonies of the victim and her 10-year-old brother that could give the impression that they had been tutored by anyone, much less by their mother.
It was the girl’s mother who had lodged a complaint at the Rohini police station on February 21, 2004, against her husband. During the trial, 51-year-old Sharma had taken the plea that his wife was implicating him as their relationship was not smooth. Further,
Sharma had argued that his wife was schizophrenic, which had resulted in her termination from the Army.
Description
While agreeing with Sharma’s contention that his wife’s ailment had been proved, the court said the vivid descriptions given by the victim and her brother proved the case beyond reasonable doubt.
