Deepinder Singh Hooda, MP from Rohtak CHANDIGARH: The Congress Member of Parliament from Rohtak, Deepinder Singh Hooda, isn’t one to shy away when you corner him on burning issues of the day like high inflation. “The United Progressive Alliance government at the Centre is taking stringent measures to reduce skyrocketing inflation in the country and the results will be visible soon,” he asserts. The young MP, son of Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda, goes on to voice confidence that Prime Minister Manmohan Singh would be able to fulfil his public assurance to provide relief to the people from this “global phenomenon” soon. Launching an indirect attack on the National Democratic Alliance and accusing Opposition leaders of “injecting an artificial price rise in the system through hoarding and black-marketing by middlemen” during an interview here, he said the need of the hour was to take stern measures against such elements. Commenting on the achievements of the UPA government, Mr. Hooda said it had been able to shift the focus from the “India Shining” hype of the NDA to “India Suffering”. While the erstwhile political masters focused on high-tech gizmos, he said, the Congress government had successfully launched several programmes geared to improving the lot of the poor, the backward classes and farmers and creation of a physical and social infrastructure in rural areas and the remotest corners besides building up urban infrastructure in a balanced approach. Claiming that the benefits of economic growth had percolated down to the masses thanks to “the big change in focus and paradigm”, he said: “For the first time, issues pertaining to farmers have been brought centre-stage and addressed thoroughly including launch of the Rs.60,000-crore loan waiver scheme, and farmers today are better off than during the NDA regime.” Asked about his non-inclusion in the Union Cabinet in the recent reshuffle , he said he believed in “working for the people with the blessings of Congress president Sonia Gandhi”. “I feel a sense of pride in working for the nation and the younger generation along with Congress general secretary Rahul Gandhi who has unveiled a new vision for the youth.” He said. Mr Hooda said his biggest achievement as an MP was to get the Centre’s nod for six-laning of the Delhi-Rohtak highway besides construction of ten railway over-bridges and setting up of the National Footwear Design and Development Institute besides several other prestigious projects including a power plant at Jharli.
