TCS CEO seeks thrust on farm sector

Special Correspondent

Thiruvananthapuram: India will have to focus on transforming its agriculture sector if the country is to achieve sustainable development, S. Ramadorai, CEO, Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), has said.

Delivering the second convocation address at the Asian School of Business on the Technopark campus here on Tuesday, he warned that ignoring the agriculture sector would pull down the pace of development and negate the country’s progress.

“For sustainable growth, the ecosystem must be seen in its entirety. To achieve 8 per cent growth, you cannot have laggards, all sectors need to grow. Agricultural transformation is imperative and this too needs management expertise and technology inputs,” he said.

Dr. Ramadorai reminded management students that there was opportunity for entrepreneurs and leaders to carve new businesses in the rural land social sectors. He said there was a huge need of top class talent in booming sectors like power, telecom, retail, manufacturing, IT and media. He stressed the need for continuous education at every level of seniority in an organisation.
