BANGALORE: Transgenic plants and molecular breeding can mitigate problems of food and nutritional security, said M. Uday Kumar of the Department of Crop Physiology in University of Agricultural Sciences, Bangalore, said on Tuesday.
He was delivering a talk on “Transgenics as an option for crop improvement” organised by the Department of Molecular Biology in Bangalore University. Dr. Uday Kumar said that environment safety has to be the major priority in using transgenic plants.
He said that transgenics can improve productivity by overcoming abiotic and biotic stresses and altering the adaptability of a plant.
