Woman injured in acid attack

GULBARGA: A man threw acid on the face of a middle-aged widow in Jewargi town on Tuesday and fled.
The victim, Akkamahadevi Mallayya Nandargimutt, a mother of two children, was on her way to her children’s coaching centre when the attacker, who was wearing a mask, sprayed the acid on her face and body.
Even as passers-by rushed to the victim’s rescue, the culprit escaped from the scene. According to reports reaching here, Nandargimutt’s face and shoulders have been badly damaged. She was being shifted to Gulbarga for treatment, the reports said. The police are yet to record the victim’s statement.
The victim’s husband Mallayya Nandargimutt, hailing from Yedrami town, died recently and she was living in Jewargi town. It was not known whether she was staying alone or with any of her relatives.
