Rahul Sangma stuns Saptarshi Roy

NEW DELHI: Rahul Sangma upset International Master Saptarshi Roy to emerge as the sole leader with 6.5 points after seven rounds of the second all-India Subroto Mukherjee international-rating chess tournament here on Tuesday.

Six players share the second spot with six points each.

The results (seventh round): Saptarshi Roy (5.5) lost to Rahul Sangma (6.5); D.P. Singh (5.5) lost to Himanshu Sharma (6); S. Satyapragyan (6) bt Praveen Prasad (5); G.B. Joshi (5.5) drew with P. Konguvel (5.5); B.S. Shivanandan (6) bt V.A.V. Rajesh (5); Ram Prakash (5) lost to Vijay Kumar Matta (6); Nassir Wajih (5) lost to Atanu Lahiri (6); Ram S. Krishnan (6) bt Anup Deshmukh (5); Sriram Jha (5.5) bt Amardeep Bartakke (4.5); Vivek Shukla (5) drew with Roktim Bandyopadhyay (5); Somak Palit (5.5) bt Shailendra Bajpai (5); Arjun Tiwari (5.5) bt Kantilal Dave (4.5); Amit Kumar Medda (5) drew with Rahul Shetty (5).
