new approach: A view of Government Rajaji Hospital in Madurai. MADURAI: The Government Rajaji Hospital has evolved a full-fledged adoption system to fulfil its requirements in infrastructure and basic amenities. A decision to this effect was taken at a meeting of environmental sanitation committee of the hospital. It would identify philanthropists, non-governmental organisations and corporate entities for signing a memorandum of understanding to liberally sponsor infrastructural development and maintenance work as part of corporate social responsibility, said Collector, S.S. Jawahar, who chaired the meeting. Once this move took off, sanitary facilities in the hospital would improve. Besides, it need not wait for funds. The sponsors would be permitted to display a board announcing their involvement. Under the ‘Namakku Naame’ scheme, a company manufacturing catheterization laboratory equipment had agreed to donate Rs.5 lakh for the construction of an intensive coronary care unit, he said and added that the district administration would release Rs.10 lakh. Commending the doctors of Department of Orthopaedics for sponsoring the amount required for provision of 10 beds for the unit, he said the administration would sanction funds for purchase of 20 beds from the Collector’s discretionary fund. Food distribution through self-help groups in wards would begin on April 16. To benefit diabetics, one SHG would be stationed near diabetes ward.
