CHENNAI: The number of Mass Rapid Transit System (MRTS) services will be increased from Friday. Announcing the new schedule, a Southern Railway release said the total number of services would be increased from 116 to 124. From Friday, the services during morning rush hour would be increased to 14 from eight. In the evening rush hour the number would go up from 6 to 10. The frequency of train services would be maintained at 10 minutes during rush hour. According to the new schedule, the first service from Chennai Beach to Velachery would start at 4.15 a.m. At present, the first service from Beach starts at 6.05 a.m. The first service from Velachery, which is now being operated at 6.50 a.m., is revised to 5 a.m. The last service from Beach would operate at 9.35 p.m. and from Velachery at 10.20 p.m. At present, the last service from Beach is at 8.30 p.m. and in the return direction, leaves Velachery at 9.15 p.m. According to the release, there would not be any Sunday service separately from April 20 on the MRTS and on the Beach – Tambaram – Chengalpattu sections. The timings of the services would be same throughout the week.
