Integrated township planned
Staff Reporter
Chennai: The Tamil Nadu Slum Clearance Board will develop an integrated township with 20,000 tenements in Chennai at the cost of Rs.814.85 crore, Housing and Urban Development Minister I. Periasamy informed the Assembly on Tuesday.
The proposal is part of the scheme to make Chennai free of slums by 2013, Mr. Periasamy said.
The township would comprise homes, schools, community halls, parks and other facilities.
Mr. Periasamy said that owing to escalating land prices in Chennai, the government flats complex in Pattinapakkam would be cleared and the area developed by the State government in association with international firms.
lternative housing would be provided in Semmenchery.
The Tamil Nadu Housing Board would construct green buildings beginning this year to promote healthy living and optimum use of natural resources, he said.
