NREGS operators stage dharna

Special Correspondent

VISAKHAPATANAM: Computer operators of the National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (NREGS) appointed at the Tahsildars offices expressed their strong resentment over the decision taken by the Government to outsource their jobs.

The computer operators along with accountant assistants were appointed two months ago as part of the NREGS last year and were also promised that they would get all benefits on par with the Government employees. However, they were told that their jobs were being outsourced and the private agencies were responsible for their jobs. A large number of such computer operators marched to the Collectorate here on Tuesday and staged a dharna there under the banner of APNREGS Contract Employees Union, affiliated to CITU demanding the Government to withdraw the outsourcing proposal.
