Kollapur MLA surrenders before magistrate

Special Mobile Court Magistrate later grants bail to MLA

TDP, Congress leaders ‘involved’ in skirmish surrendered earlier

MAHABUBNAGAR: Kollapur legislator Jupalli Krishna Rao and five others surrendered before Special Mobile Court Magistrate Shyam Prasad at Kollapur on Tuesday in connection with a case filed on November 23, 2005, following a clash between TDP and Congress workers near Jonnalabogada of Peedakothapally mandal.

Later, he was granted bail by the magistrate.

Major Irrigation Minister Ponnala Laxmaiah, the then PCC president K. Keshava Rao, special representative of Andhra Pradesh in New Delhi Mallu Ravi, Kollapur legislator Jupalli Krishna Rao and a large number of Congress workers came to Jonnalabogada where a site was selected to construct a reservoir for second lift of Kalwakurthy lift irrigation scheme to perform ‘bhoomi puja’.

As most of the ayacut under second lift is located in Nagarkurnool Assembly segment, the legislator of that segment Nagam Janardhan Reddy also expected an invitation, which was not extended.

Nagam not invited

Stung by this, TDP workers led by TDLP deputy leader N. Janardhan Reddy, party vice-president Jagadeeshwar Rao descended on the site where the ‘bhoomi puja’ was being performed. There were heated exchanges between workers of the two political parties, which finally turned into a skirmish.

The leaders of both parties lodged complaints against each other at Peedakothapally police station.

No arrests

For about two years, the police did not arrest important leaders of both sides though an FIR was booked.

The vernacular dailies a few months ago carried stories that the police failed to arrest important leaders.

Following this, Mallu Ravi, Nagam Janardhan Reddy, Jagadeeshwar Rao and some others from both the parties surrendered before the court. Now it was the turn of Kollapur MLA and his five supporters.
