The beneficiaries include 130 women recruits in the age range 18-25 from the Manimuthar battalion Udhagamandalam: A three-day training programme to attune women recruits of the Tamil Nadu Special Police (TSP) to police-public relations got under way here on Tuesday. Inaugurating the programme the Superintendent of Police, the Nilgiris Vidya D.Kulkarni explained its objectives and urged the trainees to make the optimum use of it. The beneficiaries included 130 women recruits in the age range 18-25 from the Manimuthar battalion. The Additional Superintendent of Police N. Sivamurthi said that after the training, they should supplement the duties of the police in the Nilgiris till June. Since the season was in progress in this hill station, the TSP women should make themselves useful in the maintenance of law and order, keeping an eye on anti-social elements, regulating traffic and helping tourists. The Additional Superintendent of Police S. Munusu sought the cooperation of the recruits in ensuring that the season passed off without a hitch. A trainer P. Bhuvaneshwari of the Island Trust said that the constables should be well versed with human behaviour. Stating that they should not allow their priorities on the domestic front to clash with those associated with their duties, she said that their self esteem should be high. The Assistant Professor J.S.S. College of Pharmacy P. Nilani said that the constables should always accord the highest priority to human values. Barriers which separate the police and the public should be broken. A Brahmakumari Arjunan said that the constables should develop a positive outlook. They should use the power of meditation to cope with stress. The Manager of the Rural Development Organisation Revathi Perumal underscored the need familiarise the trainees with various aspects of the Nilgiris and the culture of the people. The NSS Programme Officer, Government Arts College, Azhagar Ramanujam also spoke.
