Jwala and Diju in main draw

New Delhi: The Indian mixed doubles pair of V. Diju and Jwala Gutta made it to the main draw of the Asian Badminton Championships in Johor Bahru, Malaysia, but compatriots Akshay Dewalkar and Shruti Kurian failed at the final hurdle in the qualifiers. Diju and Jwala beat the Hong Kong pair of Wai Ho Hui and Wai Chee Koon 21-16, 21-12 in the final match of their qualifiers.

Dewalkar and Kurian went down 22-20, 21-17 against the Hong Kong team of Chun Yiu Leung and Kwan Yi Mong. They had a hard-fought 18-21, 21-19, 22-20 win over Nepal’s Balaram Thapa and Sumina Shreshtha in the previous round. — PTI
