Teachers’ meet to focus on academic standards

Papers to be presented on select topics


Thiruvananthapuram: As many as 1,000 delegates are expected to participate in a two-day teachers’ meet and seminar on education to be held here from Wednesday under the auspices of the Sarva Siksha Abhiyan, Kerala.

Addressing a press conference here on Tuesday, SSA director B.Vijayakumar and assistant director J.Beena said that the event named ‘Mikavu 2007- ‘08’ would be held at 28 venues. They said 140 theses on select topics would be presented over the two days.

The teachers’ meet would be attended by faculty of the SCERT and DIET, representatives of the advisory committee on education, curriculum committee, teachers’ organisations, higher secondary and vocational higher secondary schools, programme officers, trainers and teachers.

The seminar on education would seek to formulate projects to improve academic standards. It would be attended by chairmen of the education standing committees in district panchayats, faculty members of the SCERT, DIET principals and representatives of the HSS.

An exhibition focussing on the quality of general education, a panel exhibition and a display of education products would be held in connection with the event.

Mr.Vijayakumar said the theses to be presented at the seminar would cover relevant topics .

The event will take off on Wednesday with a keynote address by Secretary, General Education, James Varghese. Minister for Education M.A. Baby is scheduled to inaugurate the seminar sessions on Thursday.
