NEW DELHI: Former National champion P. Konguvel and Sudhir Kumar Sinha won two rounds on Wednesday to join Rahul Sangma and Himanshu Sharma in the lead at 7.5 points from nine rounds of the second all India Subroto Mukherjee international rating chess tournament here. Konguvel defeated Sagar Shah and Vinay Kumar Matta to be among the leaders. Sinha made his way to the top by stopping Arjun Tiwari and former Commonwealth champion, International Master Atanu Lahiri. In eighth round action this morning, three International Masters suffered shock defeats. Defending champion Rahul Shetty lost to youngster Ankit Rajpara, former National ‘B’ champion IM N. Sudhakar Babu surrendered to Amit Kumar Medda and Saptarshi Roy could not stand up to Akash Thakur. The results (Ninth round): Rahul Sangma (7.5) drew with Himanshu Sharma (7.5); S. Satyapragyan (7) drew with Akash Thakur (7); Vinay Kumar Matta (6.5) lost to P. Konguvel (7.5); B. S. Shivanandan (7) drew with G. B. Joshi (7); Sudhir Kumar Sinha (7.5) bt Atanu Lahiri (6.5); Sriram Jha (6.5) drew with Nassir Wajih (6.5); Chinmay Kulkarni (6.5) drew with Roktim Bandyopadhyay (6.5); Swapnil Dhopade (6) lost to Anup Deshmukh (7); D. P. Singh (7) bt Vivek Kumar Shukla (6); Ram Krishnan (6) lost to J.
