Kaithoon mandi opens after 4 years

Special Correspondent

JAIPUR: The Kaithoon mandi in Kota district of Rajasthan was reopened over the weekend after a gap of four years to facilitate the sale of garlic produced in a huge quantity in the Hadoti region.

State Parliamentary Secretary Bhawani Singh Rajawat, inaugurating trading in the mandi, said the farmers would get remunerative prices for their produce in the mandi because of the absence of “aadhatiya” (middleman) system.

Mr. Rajawat said the concept of mandis devoted to specific agricultural produce, such as garlic, coriander, isabgol, cumin, chilli and ashwagandha, had proved successful in Rajasthan, with the buyers and sellers getting a new outlet for their requirement.

Mr. Rajawat called upon the farmers to establish small-scale agriculture-based units while taking up activities such as packing, grading and export.

Bhamashah Krishi Upaj Mandi chairperson Santosh Bairwa said a proposal of Rs.1 crore for development of the mandi and improvement of infrastructure had been submitted to the State Government.
