State has rejected Navin Govt: Maken

Special Correspondent

NEW DELHI: The All India Congress Committee in-charge for Orissa and Union Minister of State for Urban Development Ajay Maken on Wednesday demanded the resignation of Orissa Chief Minister Navin Patnaik in the wake of Biju Janata Dal’s (BJD) defeat in the Laxmipur by-election.

Reacting to the election verdict, Mr. Maken said the entire State had rejected the Navin Patnaik government and it had lost the moral right to rule. Hailing the Congress victory “in the face of all odds,” he said this was the first election loss for the BJD after it came to power.

Meanwhile, asked about the party’s poor showing in the by-elections in Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh, Congress spokesman Shakeel Ahmed said: “Why don’t you ask about Orissa and West Bengal where we have won. In elections, you win some and you lose some. This is all part of the game.”
