Over 3,000 family cards ready, but not delivered

TIRUPUR: Applying for family cards, which is considered an important document for many purposes besides getting essential commodities, has been a never ending story in Tirupur.

The revenue authorities entrusted with the work receive at least 200 to 300 applications every day. An official said that they were facing pressure increasingly these days with the cooking gas agencies insisting on family cards. Another official pointed out that they had printed cards to those who had applied till September.

Though the Government insists issue of new cards in 60 days from application, the officials find it difficult to comply with due to more number of applications and inadequate staff.

As the migrant workers have the habit of changing their residence one place to another in town frequently, there have been problems in handing over the printed cards. The official clarified that nearly 3,000 family cards were yet to be delivered mainly due to change of addresses. “We have been sending intimation through post asking the applicants to collect the cards. But many could not turn as they had shifted their residence. This is putting pressure on us,” the official clarified.

He promised that by first week of May the next batch of new cards would be distributed.
